Boundary Woofers

For the optimal coupling to the room

The basic principles underlying Steinway Lyngdorf boundary woofers demanded a fundamental re-thinking of the overall concept of high fidelity bass reproduction. Conventional subwoofers are designed to generate maximum output below 100 Hz. To do so, they typically incorporate very big drive units in large enclosures that are incompatible with convenient, room-friendly installation.

Steinway Lyngdorf developed innovative boundary woofers more than twenty years ago for use in the finest music systems where speed and musical timing are main priorities. The drive units are designed to start and stop as quickly as possible. Generating massive bass output is not really hard work, the true challenge lies in making it precise and tight – not boomy.

Steinway Lyngdorf’s self-powered, high bandwidth boundary woofers focus on dynamics and precision, with seamless integration in any contemporary interior. Based on specially designed, long-throw bass drivers, featuring a massive magnet, voice coil and cone assembly for vertical or horizontal placement close to floor and walls, the compact system reduces cabinet resonances and allows optimal coupling to the room. For the ultimate transformation, we recommend a pair of boundary woofers, ideally placed in the front corners of the room and calibrated with RoomPerfect™. This takes full advantage of their extended bandwidth, for bass that blends seamlessly all the way up to 800 Hz.

In a Steinway Lyngdorf system employing boundary woofers, you will experience a quality of bass as never heard before from regular subs or speakers.
